It's Christmas morning, you're nine-years-old, and there's a game console-sized box waiting for you under the tree.
It's an incredible time to be alive. What could ruin that?
This is nine-year-old Scott Lundy, a Saugus, Massachusetts kid who was very happy to get a new PlayStation 4 for Christmas this year. It was the only thing he wanted.
Unfortunately for Scott, what was inside the wrapped up PlayStation 4 box wasn't a PlayStation at all:
That's right — there was a PlayStation 4-shaped block of wood inside the box in place of a game console, as detailed in a report from Boston's Fox 25.
Worse? It had profanity written on it:
According to Scott's father Brian Lundy, Scott opened the wrapping on the PlayStation 4 bundle that comes with "Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection," and exclaimed, "This is the best present ever! This is the best Christmas ever!"
In fairness, this looks like a rock solid Christmas.
When Scott found the wooden block inside, his excitement quickly turned to frustration and sadness.
That the wood block had an insult written on it certainly didn't help; it reads, "From c*** and b**** with love," according to Kristin Lundy's account on Facebook.
Scott was heartbroken, and apparently spent the rest of Christmas Day "in the play room, by himself, and he just wants to be alone."
Thankfully, Scott's story has a happy ending: his parents were able to snag a free replacement console from Target (where they bought it originally), plus a $100 gift card and a copy of "Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection," which was included with the original console bundle he wanted (Target gave the family a "Call of Duty: Black Ops 3" bundle).
It's not clear exactly what happened with the original console — it could've been swapped at a variety of stops along the supply chain, either by a customer or a disgruntled store employee. What is clear is that one nine-year-old had a killer Christmas present wrecked by a jerk, and that's really unfortunate.
One more friendly reminder to parents: open up and update game consoles before giving them as gifts! It has the bonus effect of guaranteeing you don't accidentally give a wooden block as a PlayStation 4.
